There are days when I realise just how much our riding world has changed — and how much choice we actually have in how we experience it.
This morning was one of those moments.
I was heading out on The Captain, my Honda Transalp, and I grabbed the S22 on the way out the door because I needed to check a few things for work. Halfway up the road it struck me: I now have two completely different riding worlds, and each phone fits its bike perfectly.
The Captain & the S22 — Today’s Tools for Today’s Roads
The Transalp is a modern machine. It’s built for distance, precision and long days where GPS and live information simply make sense.
And the Samsung S22 slots into that world effortlessly:
- Clear GPS and traffic info
- Modern video and photo quality
- Quick access to work checks
- Seamless Bluetooth and helmet integration
It’s the right tool for a bike built for the present.
When I’m on The Captain, the digital world feels natural, not intrusive. It’s part of the ride.
Phoenix & the Nokia — A Perfectly Simple Match
Then there’s Phoenix — my orange-black Vespa GTS.
A bike with charm, rhythm and a bit of analogue soul.
The Nokia 235 4G is exactly the same.
No apps. No notifications. No scrolling. Just calls, texts and quiet.
But here’s the lovely surprise I didn’t expect:
The Nokia changes how I take photos.
Instead of snapping away mindlessly, it slows me down. The pictures feel like they’ve dropped out of the 80s or 90s — slightly imperfect, slightly soft, but full of personality.
It matches the Vespa’s whole vibe: a world where you notice things again.
The S22 gives me cinematic video and sharp, modern shots — perfect for adventure rides, YouTube filming and those moments when I need quality.
The Nokia gives me memory-style photos, the kind you’d find in a family album.
Both are valid. Both are beautiful.
They just speak different creative languages.
Two Phones, Two Worlds, One Rider
And that’s when it clicked:
- When I’m on The Captain, I want the freedom of maps, tech, and modern photography.
- When I’m on Phoenix, I want the freedom from all that — just the road, a list of key towns in my A5 notebook, and the calm that comes with a simpler tool.
Both worlds are mine.
Both are deliberate.
Both add something special to the ride.
And maybe that’s the point:
In a world full of constant tech, sometimes the best way to live is simply to choose the right tool for the day — the one that matches the ride, the moment and the mood.
Ride sharp. Live loud. Stay free
