Autumn and winter riding season is here whether we like it or not. My 05:20 ride to work this morning made it crystal clear — the chill has arrived.
We’ve all had that moment: spring and summer meant breezing about in A-rated jeans, light jackets, and summer gloves. Now it’s back into the thick AAA kit, with the winter gloves pulled out of retirement. Batteries are back on charge, ready to warm the hands in unison with the grips. Waterproofs are carried as standard, and those solid winter boots have been polished up for another round.
The funny part is this in-between stage. Mornings are properly cold, demanding the full winter setup, while afternoons are still serving up enough warmth to make you sweat. So for the next few weeks, most of us are basically portable wardrobes — saddle bags filling up with discarded layers as the sun pushes through.
Soon enough late autumn will shut the door on the warmth until spring 2026. Until then, we’ll keep juggling two seasons on every ride. Stay warm out there, folks — and don’t forget your waterproofs.
Better too warm and unzipping than too cold and wishing you’d packed it.
Wishing you well and safe journeys
