The morning air has gone from \u201ca bit chilly\u201d to \u201ccold enough to bite your fingertips if you forget the heated gloves\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So for the next few months, the main character on the road won\u2019t be Phoenix  it\u2019ll be <strong>The Captain<\/strong>, my dependable Transalp. He takes the cold in his stride and handles the commute like nothing\u2019s changed. Phoenix gets a well-earned rest\u2026 except for one very important outing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In <strong>January 2026<\/strong>, Mrs C and I will be heading to the <strong>Vespa Club of Great Britain AGM and Dance<\/strong>. I\u2019ll be on Phoenix, and Mrs C will sensibly travel by train. That trip will be Phoenix\u2019s winter appearance  a reminder that the spirit of the Vespa Lifestyle doesn\u2019t disappear when the temperature drops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The paint repair series on Phoenix has been paused for now. With no electric in the garage, I can\u2019t safely heat the space enough for filler and paint to cure properly. That\u2019s fine craft shouldn\u2019t be rushed, and winter projects often work best when they follow the weather rather than fight it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the bright side, I\u2019ve already started sorting the shed. If all goes to plan, it will soon become a <strong>functional little darkroom<\/strong>  my film developing and printing workhorse for the year ahead. A place for quiet craft, cups of coffee, and the rhythm of photography the old-fashioned way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So we roll into winter with:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>thermal layers,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>heated grips and gloves,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a stiff upper lip,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and a sense that spring is waiting on the other side.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Riding doesn\u2019t stop , it just changes shape. And sometimes, that\u2019s exactly what keeps it interesting.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s officially thermal-underlayer season, with The Captain taking charge of winter commutes while Phoenix waits for his January outing.
