Why did I buy an EF lens for my Canon R6 body?

I have been looking for a f/2.8 lens for some stock video work I am doing to post on my new Wire Stock Page, and settled on a 24-70mm short telephoto.

But why choose the EF version over the new RF?

There are many reasons cost, near similar picture and build quality, cost, UK availabilty, cost oh have I mention cost lol.

But the key reason is that I can use this “new to me” Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM Lens on both by R6 & R bodies via the adapter and my beloved Canon EOS 1V HS 35mm film camera.

I get legendry sharpness

from the lens for both photography and video with added flexibility to use on any EF mount body I might own now and in the future.

I did watch many comparison videos between this lens and the new RF mount version and like many of the reviewers I could not justify the added cost between the two for what amounts to minimal upgrade in quality.

Why did I buy this Canon 24-70mm Lens?

I wanted a f/2.8 lens that I can use for all of my stills work, inc low light, but also as a go to lens for some videos I am making soon. This lens came highly recommended.

Managed to grab a great copy second hand for less than £1000 with the hood and caps and my first impressions are that it is very good indeed. Going to be a real asset going forward.

Over the coming weeks I will add examples of videos and pictures I take using the R6 + EF 24-70mm f/2.8 Mark 2 USM lens and fully explore them to give a full review of my own.
